Learning NBA rules and regulations becomes easier as NBA.com/Official relaunches with unprecedented features

NEW YORK – The NBA has made learning the rules of the game easier than ever before with the enhancement of its NBA.com/Official website, the league announced today.  The modernized website features a new digital rulebook, an enhanced video rulebook and a new user-friendly search function, along with other significant additions.

  • New Digital NBA Rulebook – The digital rulebook showcases 13 rules categories ranging from Court Dimensions to Instant Replay.  Each category is now easily sortable to find the full explanation of a rule and its applications in game situations.
  • Enhanced Video Rulebook – The updated video rulebook microsite, first introduced in 2009, has more than 400 videos that explain the rules to teams, media and fans through videos selected from NBA games. The rulebook has been expanded to offer a deeper look at some of the game’s most misunderstood rules and violations.  Each video contains detailed descriptions and explanations of plays.
  • New Search Function – The new search function allows for easy access to official content, rules and replay archives.  Searches for rules return results in three categories: an explanation of the rule (digital rulebook), video highlights (replay archives) and pertinent storylines (latest news).
  • All-Time NBA Replay Archive – The NBA replay archive houses the entire catalog of replay reviews since the inception of the NBA Replay Center in 2014.  Each video is accompanied by an official explanation of the ruling.  Videos can be searched by season, date, team and trigger.

The homepage also lists the daily referee assignments, including a new feature that details the responsibilities of the three officials (crew chief, referee and umpire) for each game.  Individual game assignments for referees are posted at NBA.com/Official at approximately 9 a.m. ET each game day.

A new addition to the site is the Daily Team Injury Report where information concerning player injuries, illnesses and rest for all NBA games will now be in one location. The reports will be posted daily at 1:30 p.m. ET, 5:30 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Latest News section on NBA.com/Official features the Last Two Minute Reports, as well as important league announcements, the 2018-19 Points of Education video and stories on NBA officials.  The website also features popular links such as the 2018-19 officiating staff roster, the officials media guide, replay triggers, the NBA concussion policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
