NBA Games – London 2011 available globally on various platforms
LONDON – The National Basketball Association’s first regular season games in Europe, NBA Games – London 2011 presented by Thomson Sport, will be televised live in more than 200 countries and territories in 28 languages, and also accessible live on NBA.com and mobile phones in more than 200 countries and territories.
In the UK, ESPN will televise the two regular-season games in prime time as part of its ‘Free Weekend’ where the channel will be made available to non-subscribers. On radio, BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra will also broadcast the games live, while BBC Radio 5 Live will air special coverage from The O2 which will include live reports from roving correspondents.
Fans in 47 European countries will be able to watch live television coverage of the NBA Games – London 2011 presented by Thomson Sport. A total of 32 international broadcasters will be on-site including NBA partners from France (Orange Sports and L’Equipe TV), Spain (Canal+) and the Middle East (Al Jazeera) who will use game footage in customized NBA programs.
NBA.com will provide fans in the UK with an exclusive opportunity to watch each game live and on-demand for free. Fans outside the UK will be able to watch the live games on NBA.com with their subscription to NBA LEAGUE PASS. Additionally, all fans with NBA Game Time, the league’s official mobile application, will be able to watch the games for free on select mobile devices.
The games will air in the U.S. live on NBA TV, the league’s 24-hour television network, and the YES Network and Sportsnet One (Canada) broadcasting on-site commentary as well.
NBA TV’s coverage of the games will feature Marv Albert and Mike Fratello calling the games live from London. The network will provide pregame, halftime, and postgame coverage, including a half-hour pregame show hosted by Matt Winer from the network’s Atlanta studios. Additionally, NBA TV will present a live press conference featuring NBA Deputy Commissioner and COO Adam Silver, New Jersey Nets Principal Owner Mikhail Prokhorov, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Chairman Larry Tanenbaum, and AEG President and CEO Tim Leiweke, on Friday, March 4. NBA.com’s Sekou Smith will provide real-time coverage of the games in London and will also contribute reports for NBA TV.
NBA Games – London 2011 presented by Thomson Sports, will feature the New Jersey Nets taking on the Toronto Raptors in two games at The O2 Arena in London on March 4 and 5. The games will feature a total of nine international players from eight countries and territories on both teams.
The NBA’s history in the UK dates back to 1993 when the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic were the first NBA teams to play in the country at London’s Wembley Stadium. Following NBA Games – London 2011 presented by Thomson Sport, 11 NBA teams will have played a total of nine games in the country.
