Alonzo Mourning, Aly Raisman, Lisa Leslie and more to join NBA and Kaiser Permanente’s Total Health Forum on physical and mental wellness
NEW YORK – The fourth annual Total Health Forum will be held on Thursday, March 21, at Tribeca 360 in New York, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Kaiser Permanente announced today. Kaiser Permanente Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Naismith Hall of Famers Alonzo Mourning and Lisa Leslie and six-time WNBA All-Star Chamique Holdsclaw will join the day’s discussions to explore strategies for achieving total health of mind, body and spirit, and ways to build healthier generations. To conclude the event, gold medal gymnast and activist Aly Raisman will sit down with forum host and ESPN SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm to share her personal story of resilience and her ongoing work to empower others.
Through a series of diverse panels and one-on-one conversations, this year’s forum will address the physical and mental wellness challenges facing our communities, focusing specifically on youth and women, and the ways businesses, healthcare providers, community leaders, coaches and parents can work together to instill long-term health and resilience. Additional participants will include Kaiser Permanente national leader for mental health and wellness Dr. Don Mordecai, NBA President of Social Responsibility & Player Programs Kathy Behrens, JED Foundation Chief Clinical Officer Nance Roy, My Brother’s Keeper Youth Fellow Devontae Springer and Headspace Head of Sports and Fitness Lindsay Shaffer.
“As the official healthcare partner of the NBA, Kaiser Permanente works to bring the message of total health to communities across the U.S.,” said Kaiser Permanente Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson. “At this year’s forum, we want to look closely at how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect our health, emphasize the importance of resilience, and come together with our partners to make the next generation healthier.”
The Total Health Forum will conclude NBA FIT Week presented by Kaiser Permanente (March 14-21), when all NBA and NBA G League teams host physical and mental wellness activities throughout their communities. Together, the NBA and Kaiser Permanente have hosted hundreds of FIT clinics in cities throughout the U.S., reaching more than 30,000 youth with essential life skills and mental health and wellness programming.
The non-profit Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest private integrated health system, has served as the NBA’s official healthcare partner since 2015. Kaiser Permanente provides the NBA with research-oriented strategic consulting, health-related content, and the development of year-round health and wellness programs, including the emotional well-being, mindfulness and stress relief programming that are part of the league’s NBA FIT, Jr. NBA and elite youth development programs.
