NBA and FIBA announce top prospects for Basketball Without Borders Europe camp in Spain
LONDON AND MÁLAGA, SPAIN – The National Basketball Association (NBA), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) today announced 60 of the top high-school-age prospects from 25 countries across Europe and the Middle East who have traveled to Málaga, Spain, for the 21st edition of Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Europe, which is being held from Friday, May 31 – Monday, June 3 at The Embassy Training Center Higuerón in Fuengirola. This marks the third time the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program is being held in Spain.
BWB Europe 2024 will bring together 30 boys and 30 girls from across Europe to learn directly from current and former NBA and WNBA players and coaches, including Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton, San Antonio Spurs guard Devonte Graham, three-time WNBA champion and NBA Europe Ambassador Amaya Valdemoro, and former WNBA player and Hozono Global Jairis coach Anna Montañana. NBA assistant coaches Kenny Atkinson (Golden State Warriors), Dutch Gaitley (Sacramento Kings), Popeye Jones (Denver Nuggets) and Joshua Longstaff (Charlotte Hornets) will also serve as BWB Europe 2024 coaches. President of the World Association of Basketball Coaches Patrick Hunt and former international scout Marin Sedlacek will join as camp directors.
The players and coaches will lead the campers through a variety of activities, including movement efficiency drills, offensive and defensive skill stations, three-point contests, 5-on-5 games, and life-skills and leadership development sessions. A ceremony on the final day of the camp will award the Kim Bohuny Camp MVP, the Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award, the Three-Point Champion and the Defensive MVP to the boys and girls who distinguish themselves on the court and as leaders.
BWB Europe 2024 coaches and members of the NBA’s Referee Operations department will also lead development clinics for local coaches and referees throughout the week. In addition, more than 60 boys and girls ages 8-18 from the local community will participate in a Jr. NBA clinic on Saturday, June 1.
BWB Europe 2024 will be supported by Nike, a global partner of BWB since 2002, which will outfit participants with Nike apparel and footwear, and Gatorade, which will keep players and coaches hydrated throughout the camp.
BWB, the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program, has reached more than 4,300 participants from 140 countries and territories since 2001, with 119 former campers advancing to the NBA or WNBA. There have been 74 BWB camps in 49 cities across 33 countries on six continents.
There have been 16 NBA players from Spain, including 2023 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Pau Gasol. The NBA has played 20 games in Spain since 1988, including a preseason game between the Dallas Mavericks and Real Madrid earlier this season. NBA games have aired in Spain since the 1987-88 season, and the league opened its office in Madrid in 2007. NBA games currently reach fans in Spain on Movistar+ and NBA League Pass, the league’s premium live game subscription service available via the NBA App, including more than 40 weekend games this season in primetime.
