Adam Silver’s statement regarding John Andariese’s passing
NEW YORK – NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released the following statement regarding the passing of John Andariese:
“John ‘Johnny Hoops’ Andariese was a New York basketball legend who devoted his life to the game, first as a standout player at Fordham University and then for nearly 40 years as the New York Knicks’ color analyst on TV and radio. His reassuring voice and extensive basketball knowledge endeared him to generations of New Yorkers. I knew John for 25 years, and he was a dear friend and mentor. He was incredibly kind with his time and taught me so much about the game and sports television. Always looking sharp in his finely tailored suits, John carried himself with the elegance and class that shined through in his broadcasts. The NBA family mourns his passing, and our thoughts are with his wife, Maureen; his daughters, Amy, Julie and Emily; and his many friends.”
