Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony, Warriors’ Stephen Curry named Kia NBA Players of the Month

NEW YORK – The New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry today were named the Kia NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in April.

Anthony averaged a near double-double, playing in eight of 10 games, as the Knicks went 8-2 for the month. He paced the league in scoring at 36.9 ppg and pulled down 9.9 rpg. Anthony, who finished the 2012-13 campaign as the league’s scoring champ (28.7 ppg), netted at least 40 points in three consecutive games, including tipping off the month with a career-high-tying 50 points in a 102-90 win at Miami on April 2. In scoring at least 40 in three straight games, Anthony became only the second Knick to accomplish the feat, joining Hall of Famer Bernard King. Anthony shot .538 from the field, .467 from beyond the arc and .836 from the free throw line.

Curry guided the playoff-bound Warriors to a 5-3 mark. Among Western Conference qualifiers, he ranked fourth in scoring (25.4 ppg), third in assists (8.1 apg), sixth in steals (2.14 spg), and fifth in free throw percentage (.955). In a 118-116 loss in Los Angeles against the Lakers on Aug. 12, Curry poured in 47 points – the second-highest scoring game of his career –adding nine assists and three steals In that contest, Curry, who established a new NBA single-season three-point record by making 272 treys, eclipsing the previous mark set by Ray Allen in 2005-06, converted nine-of-15 attempts from distance.

April 2 @ Miami: Tied his career high of 50 points to go along with nine rebounds in a 102-90 victory at Miami.

April 5 @ Atlanta: Recorded a double-double with 41 points and 14 rebounds in a 101-83 win at Milwaukee.

April 9 vs. Washington: Posted 36 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a 120-99 triumph over the Wizards that extended the Knicks’ winning streak to 13. .

April 5 @ Phoenix: Recorded 18 points, a career-high-tying 15 assists, and four steals in a 111-107 win at Phoenix.

April 12 @ L.A. Lakers: Scored 47 points on 17-0f-31 shooting in a 118-116 loss in Los Angeles.

April 17 @ Portland: Scored 15 points, in the process establishing the NBA single-season record for three-pointers made (272), in a 99-88 win over the Trail Blazers.
