NEW YORK – Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul has received the April NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente in recognition of his outstanding charitable contributions and philanthropy, the NBA announced today.  The award recognizes an NBA player each month who best reflects the passion that the league and its players share for giving back to their communities.

Kaiser Permanente and the NBA are honoring Paul for his many charitable efforts and yearlong dedication to the Los Angeles and Winston Salem, N.C., communities.  In recent months, Paul and his CP3 Foundation opened the newly refurbished Watts Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club, as well as hosted the 3rd Annual Jada Paul Prom Dress Giveaway and the Chris Paul Celebrity Bowling Invitational, which supports children’s charities.  Through the Nathaniel Jones Scholarship Fund, United Negro College Fund and Leaps n Boundz, Paul and the CP3 Foundation have provided scholarships to students of all ages.  His yearlong contributions include the 4th Annual CP3K Walk for Kids; active support of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition and the White House’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative; monthly Random Acts of Kindness Donations to families in need of groceries and home goods; and multiple basketball clinics, food and toy drives.

“I learned at an early age that you can make a major difference in people’s lives by supporting your community,” said Paul.  “Generosity in all forms is very important to me; spending quality time with those in need makes a memorable and lasting impact.”

During the April 22 playoff game, NBA Cares Ambassador Bob Lanier and a Kaiser Permanente representative will present Paul with the David Robinson Plaque during an oncourt ceremony.  In addition, Kaiser Permanente and the NBA will donate $10,000 on Paul’s behalf to the CP3 Foundation.

Paul’s win marks the end of the monthly awards and the beginning of fan voting for the 2014-15 Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente.  Along with an NBA panel of judges, fans can vote for their favorite nominee through April 27 via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #NBACommunityAssist and #PlayerFirstNameLastName.

The seasonlong nominees include past monthly winners Anthony Davis, Tobias Harris, Ben McLemore, Joakim Noah, Chris Paul, Klay Thompson and Russell Westbrook, and three additional nominees, Tyson Chandler, Pau Gasol and Damian Lillard, who have all made notable contributions to their communities.  The NBA and Kaiser Permanente will donate $25,000 to the winner’s charity of choice.
