Hornets’ Mo Williams, Thunder’s Russell Westbrook named NBA Players of the Week

NEW YORK – The Charlotte Hornets’ Mo Williams and the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook today were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, March 2, through Sunday, March 8.

 Williams led the Hornets to a 4-0 week, which included two road wins and a home victory over the Toronto Raptors.  Williams’ 19.5 ppg was tied for 10th in the East, while his 10.8 apg led the conference.  He scored 20-plus points in three of four games, and posted two point-assist double-doubles.  On March 6, he connected on four three-point field goals en route to 23 points and added seven assists during a 103-94 win over the Raptors.

Westbrook averaged a triple-double as he led the Thunder to a 2-1 week.  His 40.7 points led the league, while his 11.3 assists placed third in the West.  Westbrook also averaged 11.3 rebounds – good for fifth in the conference, and his 3.0 steals were second-best in the conference.  Westbrook recorded his seventh triple-double of the season on March 8, posting 30 points, 17 assists and 11 rebounds during a 108-104 win over the Raptors.

Mo Williams, Charlotte Hornets

March 3 vs. L.A. Lakers: Scored 20 points and added 13 assists in a 104-103 win over the Lakers.

March 4 @ Brooklyn: Tallied 14 points and 14 assists in a 115-91 win against the Nets.

March 6 vs. Toronto: Posted 23 points and seven assists in a 103-94 win over the Raptors.

March 8 @ Detroit: Totaled 21 points and nine assists in a 108-101 win over the Pistons.

Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder

March 4 vs. Philadelphia: Posted a triple-double with 49 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a 123-118 overtime win over the 76ers.

March 5 @ Chicago: Scored 43 points and added eight rebounds and seven assists during a 108-105 loss to the Bulls.

March 8 vs. Toronto: Notched his second triple-double of the week with 30 points, 17 assists and 11 rebounds in a 108-104 win over the Raptors.
