NBA 2K League to host THE TURN powered by AT&T at HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas

NEW YORK – The NBA 2K League today announced that THE TURN powered by AT&T, the league’s second tournament of the season, will take place Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11 at HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas at Luxor Hotel and Casino, marking the first time NBA 2K League games will be held outside of the NBA 2K League Studio Powered by Intel in New York City.  All games will be livestreamed on Twitch and YouTube.

Fans can attend THE TURN at HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas, Allied Esports’ flagship venue located at Luxor, by purchasing single-day tickets for $20 or a full three-day tournament package for $30, on sale now here.  The complete game schedule for THE TURN is available here.

“The atmosphere in the NBA 2K League Studio during games is electric,” said NBA 2K League Managing Director Brendan Donohue.  “We are thrilled to bring the best NBA 2K players in the world and that studio experience to our fans in Las Vegas.”

Jud Hannigan, CEO of Allied Esports said, “HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas was created to amplify the inherent excitement and drama of live esports events, and it’s the perfect venue to host the NBA 2K League’s first experience outside of New York. Las Vegas continues to build momentum as a global esports championship destination, and we look forward to hosting THE TURN and working with the NBA 2K League on future events at our arena.”

THE TURN will be a 20-game, single-elimination tournament played over the course of three days.  The tournament will feature all 21 teams and will begin with five play-in games that will lead to a 16-team, single-elimination tournament.  Seeding for the tournament will be determined by each team’s record during the four regular-season weeks that precede the tournament.  The schedule for games is below.

To create excitement and compelling action, for the first time the NBA 2K League will introduce an “Archetype Ban” concept for the 2019 edition of THE TURN.  An archetype is a preset combination of attributes and skills, and players can choose between five different archetypes per position.  Prior to every game of the tournament, each team will determine one archetype that cannot be used in the game by either team.  The designated home team will make its selection followed by the designated away team.  After the selections are made, teams will submit their rosters before the game.  More information on NBA 2K League archetypes is available here.

All 21 teams will be competing for a prize pool of $180,000.  The winner of THE TURN will earn over half of the prize pool, with the remainder being awarded to the second to eighth place teams (first place – $90,720; second place – $29,760; third and fourth place – $15,360 each; fifth-eighth place – $7,200 each).  In addition to prize money, each team that wins a tournament (THE TIPOFF, THE TURN, THE TICKET) takes home a champion banner – with the goal of collecting all three banners that link together to form THE BANNER CHAIN powered by AT&T. With their victory at THE TIPOFF on April 6, 76ers GC took home the first portion of THE BANNER CHAIN.
