NBA G League sets record for NBA G League alumni on NBA end-of-season rosters
NEW YORK – The NBA G League set records for players on end-of-regular-season NBA rosters with NBA G League experience (272) – a total of 52 percent of all NBA players – and unique NBA players assigned (105), during the 2018-19 season.
Featuring a record 27 teams this past season, the NBA’s official minor league surpassed 1.6 million in total attendance for the second time in its history and established new marks for officiating and social media growth.
Highlights from the NBA G League’s 18th season include:
NBA G League Alumni in the NBA
- A record 272 of the 526 players (52%) on 2018-19 NBA end-of-regular-season rosters have NBA G League experience.
- All 30 NBA teams finished the season with at least five NBA G League veterans on their roster, with a record 10 teams featuring 10 or more such players.
- Forty-eight NBA G League players earned 55 GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA during the 2018-19 season.
- A record 105 NBA players were assigned a record 482 times to the NBA G League for rehabilitation or development.
- Thirty-seven players selected in NBA Draft 2018 presented by State Farm played in the NBA G League this season, including 12 first-round selections.
NBA G League and USA Basketball
- Almost 20 NBA G League players played for USA Basketball during the 2018-19 season, helping Team USA qualify for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Record Teams
- A record 27 teams competed this season, more than triple the number that played during the inaugural season in 2001-02 (eight), after the Capital City Go-Go, the Washington Wizards-owned NBA G League team, joined the league for the 2018-19 season.
- The NBA G League will expand to 28 teams for the 2019-20 season when the New Orleans Pelicans’ affiliate debuts in Erie, Pa. The team is scheduled to relocate to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2022-23 season.
Officiating Milestones
- Six of the 11 new NBA G League officials hired this season (55%) are women.
- Twenty of the 61 NBA G League officials (33%) are women.
- The NBA G League had 13 all-women officiating crews this season.
- Five NBA G League officials, including two women, were named full-time NBA officials in November.
- Forty-seven of the 70 full-time NBA staff referees this season (67%) have worked in the NBA G League.
Attendance Increases
- The NBA G League surpassed 1.6 million in total attendance for the second time with 1,644,603 fans attending games this season, an increase of 27,947 (+1.7%) over last year (1,616,656).
- This season marked the 10th straight year that total attendance exceeded 1 million fans.
- Regular-season attendance averaged 2,465 fans, up 1.4% from last season.
