Top international teams from Brazil, Israel and Turkey to travel to U.S. for 2015 NBA preseason
NEW YORK – The NBA today released its 2015 preseason schedule that tips off on Friday, Oct. 2 and features three top international teams – Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, Maccabi Haifa, and Paschoalotto/Bauru – traveling to the U.S. for six games against six NBA teams.
Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, a six-time Turkish League champion, will be the first international team to play in the U.S. this preseason, taking on the Brooklyn Nets on Oct. 5 at Barclays Center before meeting the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 9 at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Maccabi Haifa, an Israeli club facing NBA teams in the U.S. for the fifth time in six years, begins its trip against the Memphis Grizzlies on Oct. 8 at FedExForum, followed by a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 11 at Staples Center.
Paschoalotto/Bauru, which competes in Brazil’s premier basketball league, will play the New York Knicks on Oct. 7 at Madison Square Garden and the Washington Wizards on Oct. 11 at Verizon Center.
The preseason schedule is also highlighted by two nationally televised games each for TNT and ESPN, with three of those four games involving the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.
TNT will air Golden State’s matchup against the Houston Rockets at Oracle Arena on Oct. 15 (10 p.m. ET) and the Warriors’ game against the Lakers at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Oct. 22 (10 p.m. ET). ESPN will televise a meeting between the Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 20 at Staples Center (10:30 p.m. ET), in addition to a game between the Wizards and Miami Heat on Oct. 21 at AmericanAirlines Arena (8 p.m. ET). NBA TV will televise the Global Games while additional televised games on the network will be announced at a later date.
The NBA preseason begins on Friday, Oct. 2, when the Denver Nuggets play the Clippers at Staples Center. The 2015-16 regular seasons tips off on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
The six preseason games showcasing Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, Maccabi Haifa, and Paschoalotto/Bauru complement the NBA Global Games 2015-16 schedule, which includes six NBA teams playing seven games in six countries (seven cities).
The October trip for Fenerbahce will mark its first appearance against NBA teams on U.S. soil. As part of NBA Global Games, Fenerbahce hosted the Boston Celtics during the 2012 preseason, the Thunder during the 2013 preseason, and the then reigning NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs during the 2014 preseason, all in Istanbul.
Maccabi Haifa traveled to the U.S. during the 2014 preseason for games against the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Toronto Raptors, and Wizards. In 2013, Maccabi Haifa won its first title since its founding in 1953, defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Super League Championship.
The two preseason games will be Paschoalotto/Bauru’s first experience against NBA competition. Paschoalotto/Bauru won the Brazilian National League Championship in 2002 and the FIBA Americas League Championship in 2015.
On opening night of the 2014-15 regular season, the NBA featured a record 101 international players from 37 countries and territories on official rosters (active and inactive).
