NBA promotes JD Ralls and Tyler Ricks to 2024-25 officiating staff

NEW YORK – NBA G League referees JD Ralls and Tyler Ricks have been named full-time NBA staff officials for the 2024-25 season, it was announced today by Albert Sanders, NBA Executive Vice President, Head of Referee Operations and Monty McCutchen, NBA Senior Vice President, Head of Referee Development and Training.

“Congratulations to JD and Tyler on reaching the pinnacle of their profession and becoming full-time NBA staff officials,” said Sanders. “Both referees have achieved promotions by displaying consistent dedication to their craft on and off the court.”

“JD and Tyler are two more examples demonstrating how the NBA G League is used as an important development tool and training ground,” said McCutchen. “We recognize their continued service to the game and celebrate their rise to the NBA ranks.”

In addition to their NBA assignments this season, Ralls and Ricks will continue to officiate NBA G League games. All NBA referees with fewer than four years of service in the NBA work NBA G League games to gain additional experience as crew chiefs and develop as leaders.

Ralls refereed eight regular season games as a non-staff official during the 2023-24 NBA season. He has officiated seven seasons in the NBA G League, including six years of playoff games and four Finals games. In 2022 and 2023, the Maryland native officiated both the NBA Summer League championship game in Las Vegas and the Basketball Africa League Finals.

Ricks officiated six regular season games during the 2022-23 NBA season and eight regular-season games in the 2023-24 NBA season as a non-staff official. The Georgia native refereed nine seasons in the NBA G League, where he worked playoff games in six years and Finals games in two years.
