NBA partners with YinzCam to enhance fan experience in team apps

NEW YORK – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and YinzCam, a leading software and mobile app company, have partnered to enhance the fan experience in team apps.  The new team apps, available on iOS and Android, will include automated location-based content, new “Watch” and “Listen” deep links for direct access to live games, and the implementation of Fabric, Twitter’s mobile development kit.

YinzCam and NBA teams are working to redesign 22 team apps during the 2015-16 NBA season.  The new multi-year partnership makes YinzCam an Official Team and Arena Mobile App Developer of the NBA and will include the NBA having an equity stake in YinzCam.

“YinzCam is an innovative company that shares our vision of bringing fans closer to the game through the latest technology,” said Melissa Brenner, NBA Senior Vice President, Digital Media. “With the help of YinzCam’s technology, our team apps will deliver the customized experience the NBA’s tech-savvy fans demand, wherever they are and whenever they want it.”

“I am delighted at the growth of YinzCam’s business through our partnership with the NBA,” said Priya Narasimhan, CEO and Founder, YinzCam, Inc.  “The partnership has grown our platform into new directions, such as the Jr. NBA app, as well as a richer set of data-driven features, including a fan-data warehouse, social games, and a unique mobile-loyalty program encompassing ticketing, social, location and content.”

Along with a more streamlined and user-friendly design, highlights of the new NBA team apps include:

Automated Location-Based Content

The new apps will personalize the home screen experience based on the fan’s location.  Core game information, such as stats, play-by-play and box score, will remain accessible, however, the most relevant features, based on a fan’s location and game status, will be delivered to the home screen.  Features such as seat upgrades and in-seat delivery will be surfaced within the app for fans at the game, while fans outside of the venue will be exposed to more extensive game coverage, video and news.

“Watch” and “Listen”

The new “Watch” and “Listen” features will provide fans with direct access to watch or listen to live games.  The “Watch” feature will deep link fans to the RSN app, a national game through the WatchESPN app or Watch TNT app, or out-of-market game on NBA LEAGUE PASS via the NBA app.

Twitter Fabric

The NBA fan experience is enhanced through the implementation of Twitter’s mobile development platform, Fabric, which enables the display of tweets within the apps. Fans, who are logged into Twitter on their mobile device, can tweet, retweet and favorite directly from the team app, instantly connecting them to millions of NBA fans around the world. Even fans that are not logged in to Twitter will see the best tweets about the game, teams and players.

Single Sign-On

The team apps will also have a single sign-on, connecting multiple features in the app with a single username and password. Single Sign-On simplifies the app experience for fans by allowing them secure access to different features, such as social and ticketing, without having to create multiple accounts.

During the 2015-16 season, YinzCam will redesign team apps for the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, and Utah Jazz.
