Rockets’ Patrick Beverley to replace Wizards’ John Wall in 2015 Taco Bell Skills Challenge
NEW YORK – Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley will replace Washington Wizards guard John Wall in the 2015 Taco Bell® Skills Challenge during State Farm® All-Star Saturday Night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 14.
TNT will exclusively televise the Taco Bell® Skills Challenge, which features a head-to-head, bracket-style tournament format for the first time. State Farm All-Star Saturday Night begins at 7:30 p.m. ET and also includes the Sprite Slam Dunk, Foot Locker Three-Point Contest and Degree® Shooting Stars.
Beverley, in his third NBA season with the Rockets, is averaging 10.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 39 games. A second-round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009, Beverley signed with Houston in January 2013 after four-plus seasons playing overseas. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2013-14.
The Chicago Bulls’ Jimmy Butler, the Toronto Raptors’ Kyle Lowry and the Atlanta Hawks’ Jeff Teague, all selected to play in the 2015 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 15, at Madison Square Garden, headline the Taco Bell® Skills Challenge field. Defending champion Trey Burke of the Utah Jazz, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Michael Carter-Williams, the Milwaukee Bucks’ Brandon Knight and the Phoenix Suns’ Isaiah Thomas will also compete in the three-round, obstacle-course competition that tests dribbling, passing, agility and shooting skills.
The Taco Bell® Skills Challenge format calls for two players to compete simultaneously on an identical course with the fastest finisher reaching the next round. In the first round, the eight players have been paired to participate in four head-to-head competitions, including the new pairing of Beverley and Thomas. The four winners advance to the second round, where two more head-to-head showdowns will determine the two finalists. Complete rules can be found at mediacentral.nba.com.
