Televisa and NBA announce multiyear partnership renewal to deliver more free-to-air games in Mexico
MEXICO CITY – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Televisa, the largest media company in the Spanish speaking world, today announced a multiyear partnership renewal that will continue to deliver live NBA games on free-to-air and Pay TV to a nationwide audience on Televisa, TDN and TelevisaDeportes.com. The partnership includes both NBA Mexico City Games, weekly regular-season games, NBA All-Star, select playoff games and for the first time an entire NBA Conference Finals series, exclusively on free-to-air in Mexico.
Televisa, the NBA’s broadcast partner in Mexico since 2016, will for the first-time air both of this season’s NBA Mexico City Games: Chicago Bulls vs. Orlando Magic on Thursday, Dec. 13 and Utah Jazz vs. Orlando Magic on Saturday, Dec. 15. The two games, the NBA’s 27th and 28th games in Mexico all time, will be available free-to-air on Televisa’s channel 9.
In addition to the free-to-air broadcasts, Televisa will offer weekly regular-season games and NBA programs and highlights on TDN and TelevisaDeportes.com starting in January. Fans will have access to select NBA shows offering in-depth NBA analysis, highlights and appearances by current NBA players, coaches and legends. Televisa will continue onsite live production for marquee NBA events and expand its coverage of the NBA in several weekly sports programs.
Following the NBA Mexico City Games 2018, the NBA will have staged 28 games in Mexico since 1992, the most NBA games held in any country outside the United States and Canada. The first official NBA destination for fans in the country (NBA.com/Mexico) launched in May 2014, while Mexico’s official online store (NBAtienda.com) launched in August 2013. The NBA is committed to developing basketball at the grassroots level in Mexico through programs like the Jr. NBA, The NBA Academy Latin America, Basketball Without Borders and the Americas Team Camp.
