Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale receives July WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm
NEW YORK – Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale has been named the July WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm® recipient for her ongoing efforts and dedication to supporting and uplifting young female athletes and breaking down barriers for participation in sports.
In July, working closely with the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation, Ogunbowale surprised a group of young basketball players from the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis and their youth development program. As part of the #SportsMatter Giving Truck, young athletes were given sports equipment. Ogunbowale has demonstrated her passion for being a role model to young girls and athletes while supporting their athletic quests.
Ogunbowale, the 2021 WNBA All-Star MVP, participated in the All-Star WNBA Fit Month x Goodr Grocery Pop-up, which provided a pop-up drive-thru grocery distribution service to residents of Las Vegas facing food insecurity.
Additionally, Ogunbowale continues to improve the quality of life for local Dallas area residents through the Dallas Wings Community Foundation. Ogunbowale is committed to serving as a leader and supporting programs that empower and celebrate women and girls, social justice, promote diversity and inclusivity and provide opportunities for youth to develop their skills.
“With the platform I have as a professional athlete, it is my honor to be able to give back and support our local communities,” said Ogunbowale. “I always aspire to be a positive role model for young girls and athletes everywhere. I am proud to be able to use my voice as a means of change and look forward to continuing making progress in our local communities and throughout the country.”
The WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm® is awarded monthly during the season to the player who best reflects the WNBA’s passion to make a difference in the community. In recognition of Ogunbowale’s efforts, the WNBA and State Farm® will donate $5,000 to Giants of Africa.
