WNBA unveils community and media events for Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017

NEW YORK – The WNBA today announced special community and media events for Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017 in Seattle.  The All-Star Game, televised nationally by ABC and broadcast globally in more than 200 countries and territories, will take place on Saturday, July 22 (3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT) at KeyArena, home of the Seattle Storm.

In honor of the WNBA’s commitment to the community and the Emerald City’s first time hosting WNBA All-Star, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray will proclaim the weekend of the All-Star Game as “WNBA All-Star Weekend.”

The following is a list of events for Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017:

Tuesday, July 18

Seattle Mayoral Proclamation

Mayor Murray will proclaim the tip-off of WNBA All-Star Weekend in Seattle during a special presentation on July 18, prior to the Storm’s home game against the Chicago Sky on ESPN2.  Media interested in attending must be credentialed through Storm Communications.

Jr. NBA Hosts WNBA All-Star Clinic

The Jr. NBA, WNBA All-Stars, and WNBA Legends will host a youth basketball clinic for approximately 75-100 children from local boys and girls clubs. Photo and interview opportunities are available. Please RSVP to Kenlyn Tyree at ktyree@nba.com.

WNBA All-Stars Throw Out First Pitch at Mariners-Yankees Game

The Seattle Mariners have invited WNBA All-Stars to throw out the first pitch before their game against the New York Yankees.  The first pitch will take place at approximately 7 p.m. PT, followed by a jersey swap with the WNBA and the Mariners. Fans who wish to attend the Mariners game that evening can take advantage of the WNBA group discount at Mariners.com/WNBA.

WNBA All-Stars Flag Raising at the Space Needle

Several WNBA All-Stars and WNBA President Lisa Borders will raise the WNBA flag at the Space Needle.

WNBA and Kaiser Permanente Host WNBA Fit All-Star Clinic

WNBA All-Stars will host a basketball clinic and provide nutrition tips to approximately 90 children from the Smilow Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club.  Photo and interview opportunities are available.  Please RSVP to Kenlyn Tyree at ktyree@nba.com.

Verizon WNBA All-Star Open Practices

The Eastern Conference and Western Conference All-Star teams will each have an open practice at KeyArena, giving fans an up-close view of WNBA All-Stars as they prepare for the midseason showcase.  Open practices are available to those who have purchased tickets to the Verizon WNBA All-Star Game.  Seating is general admission.

The East All-Stars will practice from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. PT.  The West All-Stars will practice from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. PT.  Media availability will take place between practices starting at 2:45 p.m. PT.

WNBA Orange Carpet and Welcome Reception Presented by Visit Seattle

WNBA All-Stars will walk the WNBA Orange Carpet outside of the Space Needle, with player arrivals beginning at 6 p.m. PT.

The Orange Carpet will be followed by a welcome reception presented by Visit Seattle at the Chihuly Garden and Glasshouse.

Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017

The Verizon WNBA All-Star Game will tip off at 12:30 p.m. PT on ABC.

 Three-Point Contest at Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017

Showcasing six current WNBA sharpshooters, the Three-Point Contest will take place during halftime of the Verizon WNBA All-Star Game.

The WNBA, in partnership with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), will add a new element to reflect the players’ work off the court as leaders on social issues and active engagement with philanthropic efforts.  For the first time, $10,000 will be donated to a charity of the winner’s choice in support of her work in the community.

Participants will be announced at a later date.  The competition is open to credentialed media only.
