WNBA App continues to broaden content offering for women’s basketball fans by streaming 2024 Athletes Unlimited games
NEW YORK – The WNBA will once again broaden the league’s content offerings this winter by providing fans live and on-demand access to 18 of the 24 basketball games from Athletes Unlimited (AU), the network of professional women’s sports leagues. This marks the second consecutive year in which WNBA platforms are streaming Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball game action and the first year the AU games will be available free on the WNBA App.
The reimagined WNBA App, launched last May, brings fans closer to the game and players they love with a variety of content and experiences throughout the year. Through the platform’s around-the-clock women’s basketball coverage, featuring the latest news and biggest stories, real-time notifications, social style vertical videos and customizable viewing options, users can stay connected with the WNBA and women’s basketball in a new way.
“The WNBA is thrilled to collaborate with Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball for a second consecutive season, unlocking access to more women’s basketball for fans across the globe,” said WNBA Chief Growth Officer Colie Edison. “We are proud to have the WNBA App serve as the free, live streaming partner of AU Pro Basketball, and with many of our WNBA athletes set to star in the upcoming season – and the additional group of talented, young players on AU rosters looking to make their mark – fan demand for this content has never been greater. With the addition of the 2024 AU Pro Basketball season, coupled with the current WNBL (Australia’s premier women’s basketball league) season available on demand, the WNBA App is committed to serving as the year-round direct-to-consumer provider of the best professional women’s basketball worldwide.”
“We are thrilled to build on our relationship with the WNBA and once again partner to bring Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball to the most passionate fans of the sport through the WNBA App,” said Cheri Kempf, Senior Vice President, Athletes Unlimited. “We are very glad that these games will be even more widely accessible this season, as fans will be treated to world-class talent competing to be crowned the individual champion of their sport.”
The 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball season will feature 40 players competing on four teams. Of those 40 players, 18 finished the 2023 season on a WNBA roster and 11 others, including five-time All-Star Angel McCoughtry, boast WNBA experience. Play during the league’s four-week season will tip off on Thursday, Feb. 29 and conclude on Saturday, March 23. Individual athletes earn points for both team and individual performance, and the top four players on the leaderboard each week will have the opportunity to select their teams for the following week, resulting in athletes playing alongside a different lineup each week. At the end of the season, the player with the most points will be crowned as AU Pro Basketball’s individual champion.
Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball, which will announce its full broadcast/streaming schedule in February, will play its 24-game schedule this season in Dallas, Tex., at the Fair Park Coliseum. Cindy Brunson will handle the play-by-play duties, while WNBA legend and Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes will provide analysis, with additional guest analysts to be announced at a later date.
