NBA teams up with WSC Sports Technologies to provide next-gen video highlights to fans worldwide
NEW YORK – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and WSC Sports Technologies, an innovative sports video technology company, have teamed up in a multiyear partnership for automated video highlight creation and delivery to provide NBA fans around the world with more customized highlight packages than ever before.
The NBA will use WSC’s AVGEN (Automatic Video Generator) and Clipro technology to automatically generate customized highlights in near real-time. Additionally, highlights can be generated using pre-defined queries, ensuring that fans have access to the best moments from every team and player.
The new technology will provide in-game and postgame video highlight packages, along with daily, weekly and monthly highlights of specific teams, players and plays. The customized video content and highlight packages with WSC will be featured across the NBA’s digital and social assets, including the league’s 18 international Web destinations, many NBA team sites, NBA.com/Stats, NBADLeague.com, and WNBA.com.
“NBA fans around the world crave game highlights, and our unique collaboration with WSC lets us provide unlimited, high quality video content,” said NBA Senior Vice President, Digital Media Melissa Brenner. “As NBA fans’ demand for video on digital and social platforms continues to grow, WSC’s technology will give us the tools to help keep up with that demand.”
“We are excited to partner with the NBA to increase its global outreach and serve fans, wherever they are, with more customized content,” said WSC Sports Technologies CEO Daniel Shichman. “Using our technology, the NBA and its teams and international partners have the capability to automatically and instantly generate relevant content for fans according to their preferences.”
Since the beginning of the 2015-16 NBA season, WSC’s AVGEN and Clipro platforms have created more than 20,000 NBA highlight packages as part of the initial rollout.
During the 2014-15 NBA season, fans around the world viewed a record 4.2 billion videos across NBA.com and NBA Mobile.
