Celtics’ Joe Mazzulla named 2025-26 NBA Coach of the Year

NEW YORK – Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has been named the 2025-26 NBA Coach of the Year, earning the Red Auerbach Trophy.  Mazzulla has won the award for the first time.

• Led Boston to a 56-26 record and the No. 2 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference, including a 51-19 mark after a 5-7 start

• Recorded his fourth consecutive season with at least 56 victories as Celtics head coach

• Oversaw a team that ranked second in the NBA in offensive rating (120.0) and fourth in both defensive rating (111.7) and net rating (8.3)

• Became the first Celtics head coach to win the NBA Coach of the Year Award since Bill Fitch in 1979-80 and the fourth in franchise history, a group that also includes Red Auerbach (1964-65) and Tom Heinsohn (1972-73)

• Became the youngest NBA Coach of the Year Award winner (37) since Phil Johnson in 1974-75

A global media panel of 100 voters selected the winner of the 2025-26 NBA Coach of the Year Award.  The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.  The complete voting results are below.
