Foot Locker and NBA expand partnership

NEW YORK – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Foot Locker today announced a new multiyear extension of their longstanding partnership.  The athletic retailer continues its role as the title partner of the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest, which has been a staple of NBA All-Star since 1986.

Foot Locker, the title partner of the Three-Point Contest since 2004, will engage fans in the lead-up to this year’s event through a “3 for 3 Sweepstakes,” which will offer fans multiple ways to enter in store, online, or via text for a chance to win prizes, including cash and Foot Locker gift cards.  The “3 for 3 Sweepstakes” will be promoted through a 30-second spot and at Foot Locker stores.

“Our partnership with the NBA for the Three-Point Contest during NBA All-Star further strengthens our heritage in basketball,” said Stacy Cunningham, Corporate Vice President of Marketing for Foot Locker, Inc.  “We are looking forward to generating additional excitement for our customers and NBA fans by further engaging them with our ‘3 for 3 Sweepstakes’ tie-in with the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest.”

“The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest is a tradition at NBA All-Star and we’re thrilled that our title partner is making this long-term commitment to the event,” said NBA Executive Vice President, Global Marketing Partnerships Mark Tatum.  “Foot Locker is a premier destination for NBA fans seeking cutting-edge footwear.  We look forward to connecting with their customers both in their stores and at events.”

As part of NBA All-Star, fans attending All-Star Saturday Night presented by State Farm will receive a Foot Locker cheer card, which will include a merchandise coupon that they can redeem online at footlocker.com or at any Foot Locker store.  Foot Locker stores in Los Angeles will host player appearances during NBA All-Star.

The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest pits six of the NBA’s best long-range shooters against each other and the clock in a test of long-range accuracy.  The reigning Foot Locker Three-Point champion is the Boston Celtics’ Paul Pierce, who scored 20 points in the final round to claim the 2010 title in Dallas.  Jason Kapono (Toronto Raptors) and Craig Hodges (retired) share the record for most points scored in a round with 25.

Along with the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest, NBA All-Star Saturday Night presented by State Farm will also feature the Haier Shooting Stars, Sprite Slam Dunk, and Taco Bell Skills Challenge.  TNT and ESPN Radio’s live national coverage will begin at 8 p.m. EST from Staples Center in Los Angeles.  The 60th NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 20, will air live on TNT and ESPN Radio, and in more than 200 countries in more than 40 languages.
