The tournament will be also supported by a full roster of partners, including presenting partner Antel, and marketing partners Supermatch, Dove Men Care and Gatorade.
The first NBA G League International Challenge took place at NBA All-Star 2018 in Los Angeles, where the NBA G League USA Team defeated Mexico’s Men’s National Team 88-67.
NBA G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim:
“The NBA G League is committed to helping grow and develop the game of basketball – domestically as the NBA’s official minor league and across the globe through events like the International Challenge. I’m thrilled to bring a team of NBA G League players to Uruguay to compete against top international teams and look forward to an exciting and competitive tournament.”
Antel President Andrés Tolosa:
“The NBA G League International Challenge is one of the best international basketball tournaments in the world, and we feel very proud to hold it in the Antel Arena. This accomplishment is part of a strong commitment to grow the game of basketball in our country and to bring the NBA experience closer to our clients, with the support of the best league in the world. We are very enthusiastic to host the first edition of the NBA G League International Challenge in Uruguay this September along with its related events, such as the Fan Zone which will give fans the opportunity to get even closer to the game while enjoying the finals of the Jr. NBA Antel Tournament 2019.”
Argentina’s San Lorenzo Vice-President Marcelo Tinelli:
“It is an honor for San Lorenzo de Almagro to participate once again in a tournament organized by the NBA. We remember with great affection the experience of October 14, 2016 in Toronto, when we played against the Raptors in Canada, becoming the first Argentine club to face an NBA team. Now, next September, we will be in Uruguay with other great teams to play in the NBA G League International Challenge.”
Brazil’s Flamengo Vice-President of Olympic Sports Delano Franco:
“It is very important for Flamengo to start the season with games against top teams from a technical point of view, but more importantly, it is a great honor to receive an invitation from the NBA and reinforce our role as protagonist of the modality in our country. It will be another great opportunity for the internationalization of the Flamengo brand, as it was on the other five times that we faced NBA teams in the preseason of the best league in the world. It is a privilege for our athletes and a great opportunity to be close to our fans around the world.”
Germany’s FC Bayern Basketball General Manager Marko Pešić:
“It’s a great privilege and honor to be part of the NBA G League International Challenge as the only European representative. On behalf of FC Bayern Munich Basketball, I would like to thank the NBA for inviting us, as this opportunity represents a big leap into the future. To have the chance to compete against the NBA’s G League squad, as well as top teams from all over the South America continent will be a great experience for our entire organization. We look forward to a great basketball time on and off the courts in Uruguay.”
Uruguay’s FUBB President Ricardo Vairo:
“For the Uruguayan Basketball Federation, it is an honor to receive the NBA G League International Challenge 2019 in the great and comfortable Antel Arena in Montevideo. We value the enormous effort by Antel to host this prestigious tournament with first class teams. We´re proud to have it here for basketball lovers in Uruguay. It will be an extraordinary opportunity filled with a memorable experience.”
