NBA statement on Grizzlies-Suns game

NEW YORK  Rod Thorn, NBA President, Basketball Operations, issued the following statement today regarding a non-call during regulation of the Memphis Grizzlies vs. Phoenix Suns on Jan. 11, at FedEx Forum:

“Upon review at the league office, we have found that the game-tying field goal made by Phoenix’s P.J. Tucker with 5.9 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter should not have counted. As the ball bounced on the rim after the shot, his teammate, Eric Bledsoe pulled the net, shaking the backboard. According to Rule 11h: Players may not vibrate the rim, net or backboard so as to cause the ball to make an unnatural bounce, or bend or move the rim to an off-center position when the ball is touching the ring or passing through.  Since there was no goaltending called on the play, referees could not use replay to review it.”  Memphis went on to win 122-110 in double-overtime.
