NBA Summer League 2013 to tip off July 12

NEW YORK – NBA Summer League 2013 in Las Vegas will feature 22 teams competing for the inaugural NBA Summer League Championship. The 61-game schedule runs July 12-22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

For the first time in the history of the event, a tournament-style schedule will be introduced. Participating teams will compete in three preliminary round games from July 12-16 before being seeded for tournament play culminating with a championship game on July 22. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games.

As part of its NBA Summer League partnership, adidas will chronicle the experiences of its rookie endorsers for an upcoming online video series as they take to an NBA court for the first time. Sprite will celebrate the best dunks taking place throughout NBA Summer League and feature them on NBA.com and social media channels, with each dunk receiving first-hand commentary from NBA players. adidas, Gatorade, and Sprite will all also have branding throughout the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion during the full slate of games.

NBA Summer League 2013 will open with the debut of New Orleans as the Pelicans when they meet the New York Knicks on Friday, July 12 at 1 p.m. PT. The Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected UNLV’s Anthony Bennett with the first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, will tip off their NBA Summer League competition on July 12 against the Los Angeles Lakers at COX Pavilion at 5 p.m. PT.
