NBA TV to televise 42 WNBA games during 2016 season

NBA TV will tip off its 2016 WNBA game coverage on Saturday, May 21, at 8:30 p.m. with the San Antonio Stars and WNBA All-Star Kayla McBride visiting the Dallas Wings and two-time WNBA All-Star Skylar Diggins. Overall, NBA TV will televise 42 games during the 2016 WNBA regular season – the league’s 20th season.

The WNBA on NBA TV schedule will include appearances from all 12 WNBA teams, along with extensive coverage of the league throughout the season including highlights and postgame interviews with players and coaches following key WNBA matchups.

Schedule highlights include:

  • 10-time WNBA All-Star and second all-time leading scorer Tamika Catchings continues the pursuit of Tina Thompson’s scoring record in her final season, when the Indiana Fever visit the Atlanta Dream on May 29.
  • 2009 WNBA MVP and seven-time WNBA All-Star Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury face off against Diggins, Odyssey Sims and the Dallas Wings in the nightcap of an NBA TV doubleheader on June 18.
  • The defending champion Minnesota Lynx make their 2016 NBA TV debut on June 7, when they host the Mercury as they continue their quest for a third championship in four years.
  • A clash of first-round draft picks between No. 1 overall pick and four-time NCAA Division I Champion Breanna Stewart (Seattle Storm) and 2016 10th overall pick Imani Boyette (Chicago Sky) in the second game of an NBA TV doubleheader on July 17.
  • A 2015 WNBA Finals rematch when the defending champion Lynx visit Indianapolis to face the Fever on September 16.

Additionally, the network will preview the regular season on Thursday, May 12, at 6 p.m. with the 2016 WNBA Season Preview hosted by Kristen Ledlow and LaChina Robinson. The 30-minute show will cover the Lynx’s upcoming title defense, the return of Mercury veteran Taurasi, the arrival of Storm rookie Stewart, the career of Fever legend Catchings and a look back at 20 years of WNBA highlights. WNBA President Lisa Borders will also join the show.
