WNBA and Tidal to live stream regular-season finale between Liberty and Wings

NEW YORK – The WNBA and TIDAL, the global music and entertainment service, will livestream the first basketball event on the platform with the 2017 regular-season finale between the New York Liberty and the Dallas Wings on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. ET.

The groundbreaking video livestream will be available free to all fans on TIDAL.com/WNBA and the TIDAL App.

The Dallas Wings have dedicated the game to benefit Hurricane Harvey relief efforts by donating $1 for each ticket sold and have partnered with Dallas Women’s Foundation to support agencies across North Texas who are providing relief for impacted families. In addition, viewers watching the Texas-based game will be able to donate to Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief funds with the Red Cross and Dallas Women’s Foundation throughout the livestream.

“The WNBA is thrilled to join TIDAL for this special event, which will benefit those impacted by Hurricane Harvey,” said WNBA President Lisa Borders. “There are two international languages, music and sports. WNBA fans are passionate about both and TIDAL brings these two passions together on one dynamic platform.”

As part of the live event, TIDAL artist Justine Skye will perform the national anthem and serve as the halftime entertainment for the game in Arlington, Texas.  In addition, exclusive play lists curated by the Liberty and the Wings players will be available on TIDAL’s TIDAL.com/WNBA.

Behind three-time WNBA All-Star Skylar Diggins-Smith and two-time All-Star Glory Johnson, the Wings clinched a playoff berth with their victory over the Chicago Sky on Wednesday.  The Wings, currently in their second season in Dallas, are 1½ games ahead of the Seattle Storm for the seventh seed.

“This Sunday, we are Texas strong, and with our hearts, we’re playing for those affected by Hurricane Harvey,” said Skylar Diggins-Smith. “TIDAL partnering with the WNBA is the intersection of culture and an example of how we can all give back. TIDAL’s international reach not only brings the game to our overseas fans, but it also raises the awareness of all those in need.”

The Liberty, led by 2012 WNBA MVP Tina Charles, has won eight consecutive games to climb into fourth place in the league and close within one game of the third-place Connecticut Sun.  A winner of four conference titles, New York is seeking its first WNBA championship in franchise history.

The game marks the latest initiative in the league’s efforts to further showcase the game to a global audience. The WNBA’s 21st season has also featured a full schedule of live games on Twitter, the launch of the league’s first official one-day fantasy game with Fan Duel and the announcement that WNBA teams and players will make their video game debut this fall in NBA LIVE 18 by Electronic Arts Inc.
