Mystics’ Elena Delle Donne, Lynx’s Maya Moore named WNBA Players of the Week

NEW YORK – Elena Delle Donne of the Washington Mystics and Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx today were named the WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played June 25 to July 1.

Delle Donne was selected Player of the Week for the 14th time in her six seasons.  She averaged an East-leading 24.7 points per game, ranked second in the conference in rebounds (7.3 rpg) and tied for first in blocked shots (1.67 bpg) last week as Washington went 2-1.  Delle Donne also converted all 18 of her free throw attempts.

The highlight of the week for the 6-5 forward/guard came on June 28, when she made a game-winning, buzzer-beating three-pointer to complete a 22-point effort as Washington defeated the visiting New York Liberty 80-77.  Two days earlier, Delle Donne tallied 25 points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a 92-80 home win over the Connecticut Sun.  She closed her week with 27 points and a season-high 13 rebounds in an 84-74 home loss to the Phoenix Mercury on July 1.

Moore earned Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row and her 19th time in eight seasons.  She led the Lynx to a 3-0 mark as Minnesota extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 10-6.  The 6-foot forward led the WNBA in scoring (27.3 ppg) for the week.  Among West players, she tied for 10th in rebounds (5.7 rpg), was sixth in field goal percentage (53.4, 31-of-58) and ranked seventh in three-point field goal percentage (56.3, 9-of-16).

Moore started the week with a season-high 32 points to go with seven rebounds in a 91-79 win over the visiting Seattle Storm on June 26.  She then recorded 24 points, four rebounds and three assists in an 85-74 home win over the Atlanta Dream on June 29.  In her final game of the week, Moore had 26 points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks as Minnesota edged the host Dallas Wings 76-72 on July 1.

Other candidates for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were the Chicago Sky’s Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot, Dallas’ Liz Cambage, the Indiana Fever’s Victoria Vivians, the Las Vegas Aces’ Kayla McBride and A’ja Wilson, the Los Angeles Sparks’ Chelsea Gray and Candace Parker, Minnesota’s Sylvia Fowles, Phoenix’s Diana Taurasi and Seattle’s Breanna Stewart.
