NBA Mexico City Games 2019: By the numbers

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 10, 2019 – The NBA will play two regular-season games as part of the NBA Mexico City Games 2019 presented by Nike.  The Dallas Mavericks take on the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, Dec. 12 and the San Antonio Spurs play the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, Dec. 14.  The games will mark the 29th and 30th games in Mexico since 1992, the most NBA games held in any country outside the United States and Canada.  It will also be the fourth consecutive season the NBA will play two regular-season games in Mexico City.

Below is a look at some facts and figures about NBA Mexico City Games 2019:

10,000 – The Mavericks, Pistons, Spurs and Suns will transport more than 10,000 lbs. (4,535 kg.) of equipment and training room supplies for the two games at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico.

262 The Arena Ciudad de Mexico court will be made up of 262 pieces of wood squares and will feature the NBA Mexico City Games 2019 logo.

121 There will be 121 cases of Gatorade (2,904 bottles) ready for use by the Pistons, Mavericks, Suns, and Spurs.

40 Following the NBA Mexico City Games 2019, the NBA will have played 40 games in the Caribbean and Latin America since 1991.

39 – Phoenix guard Devin Booker set a record for most points scored in an NBA regular season game in Mexico City with 39 points in each of the two 2017 NBA Mexico City Games against the Mavericks and Spurs.

26 Fifteen dance team members – 10 Detroit Pistons Dancers and five Suns Dancers – along with six entertainers from Detroit’s Extreme Team and five from Phoenix’s Sol Patrol dunk teams will travel to Mexico City as part of the in-arena entertainment. 

21 – There are a combined 21 international players from 16 countries and territories on the four teams competing in The NBA Mexico City Games 2019, including 2018-19 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Luka Dončić (Mavericks; Slovenia), 2018 NBA All-Star Kristaps Porziņģis (Mavericks; Latvia) and 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup MVP Ricky Rubio (Suns; Spain).

10 – The matchups will be the NBA’s ninth and 10th regular-season games in Mexico.

9 – This year’s games are being supported by nine world-class partners: presenting partner Nike, 2K, AT&T, Codere, Coors Light, ExxonMobil, Gatorade, SAP and Tissot. 

7 – The Mavericks have played the most games in Mexico with seven. The Spurs and Suns have each played six games. This is the second game in Mexico for the Pistons. 

4 – NBA Mexico City Games 2019 will mark the first time that four NBA teams will play in Mexico in one regular season.

3 –  Rubio will be playing in his third game in Mexico City.  He previously played in Mexico with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Utah Jazz. 

2 – Two team mascots — Detroit’s Hooper and the Phoenix Gorilla — will entertain the crowd at Arena Ciudad de Mexico.

1 – The first NBA Store in Mexico will open on the corner of Masaryk and Aristoteles Streets in the heart of Polanco in Mexico City.  The 2,023 square-foot retail space will provide the widest selection of NBA merchandise available in Mexico, including apparel, jerseys, footwear, headwear, novelties and exclusive NBA gear.
