Magic’s Victor Oladipo, Jazz’s Trey Burke named Kia NBA Rookies of the Month

NEW YORK – The Orlando Magic’s Victor Oladipo and the Utah Jazz’s Trey Burke today were named the Kia NBA Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in December.

Oladipo ranked third among NBA rookies in scoring (12.7 ppg) and assists (3.8 apg), sixth in rebounds (4.5 rpg), and second in steals (1.3 spg) and minutes (32.1 mpg). Additionally, Oladipo scored in double figures 10 times and had 20 or more points twice, including a career-high 26 points twice, on Dec. 3 at Philadelphia and Dec. 13 vs. Cleveland. He also recorded at least one steal 11 times and two-or-more steals five times during December. Oladipo recorded the first triple-double of his career tallying 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 126-125 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 3 in Philadelphia.

Burke led all NBA rookies in assists (5.9 apg) and free throw percentage (.919). Among first-year players, he ranked second in scoring (14.8 ppg) and minutes (32.7 mpg).  Burke had a career-high 30 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in a 86-82 victory over the Orlando Magic on Dec. 18. He was the first rookie with 30 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in a game since the Los Angeles Clippers’ Blake Griffin did it vs. the Memphis Grizzlies on April 13, 2011. Additionally, Burke scored in double figures in 13 of 16 games in December with five or more assists in 12 games.

Dec. 3 @ Philadelphia: Recorded his first career triple- double with 26 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds in a 126-125 loss to the 76ers.

Dec. 13 vs. Cleveland: Contributed 26 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and four steals in a 109-100 loss against the Cavaliers.

Dec. 27 @ Detroit: Tallied a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 11 assists in a 109-92 victory over the Pistons.

Trey Burke, Utah Jazz

Dec. 2 vs. Houston: Contributed 21 points, six assists and three rebounds in a 109-103 victory over the Rockets.

Dec. 13 @ Denver: Posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 assists and two rebounds in a 103-93 win over the Nuggets.

Dec. 18 @ Orlando: Recorded a career-high 30 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in a 86-82 win over the Magic.
