BERLIN, GERMANY – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Fanatics, a digital sports platform and global leader in licensed sports merchandise, today opened the first NBA Store in Germany.  The new store, located at Alte Potsdamer Str. 7, 10785 in The Playce at Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz and operated by retail giant Lids, marks the largest NBA Store in Europe and fourth on the continent, joining London (UK), Milan (Italy) and Paris (France).

To celebrate the opening, 2011 NBA champion J.J. Barea visited the store and interacted with fans.  The store is also offering fans complimentary embroidery with each purchase throughout the day.

The nearly 1,000-square-meter store features an extensive range of official NBA and WNBA merchandise and memorabilia, including jerseys, apparel, headwear, sporting goods, toys and collectibles from major brands such as Nike, Mitchell & Ness, New Era and Wilson.  The store also features exclusively commissioned artwork created by an independent Berlin-based designer and visual artist, exclusive NBA Berlin-branded apparel, as well as a customization area where fans can personalize NBA jerseys and hats for all 30 NBA teams.

“We are excited to expand our collaboration with Fanatics and Lids to Berlin through the opening of this incredible space in a city with such a passionate basketball community,” said NBA Europe and Middle East Senior Director, Global Partnerships Steve Griffiths.  “Germany is an important market for the NBA, and today’s opening reflects our commitment to providing more opportunities for the country’s fans to engage with the league and celebrate their favorite teams and players.”

“Lids is proud to continue expanding globally alongside our partners,” said Britten Maughan, President of Lids.  “The first NBA Store in Germany at The Playce at Potsdamer Platz is the perfect opportunity for us to connect with basketball fans along with new Lids consumers.  The store in Berlin offers an impressive array of basketball apparel and memorabilia from both NBA and WNBA teams and customization options for all merchandise, a unique feature found in all of our Lids locations.”

“Opening the first NBA retail store in Germany is an exciting moment, and we are happy to continue to grow our relationship with the NBA to bring another high street retail store to European fans of the league,” said Matthew Primack, Senior Vice-President for International Business Development at Fanatics.  “I know that in utilizing Lids’ expertise, the new store in Berlin, which is the latest NBA Store we have opened in Europe following the recent openings of London and Paris, will impress and excite all NBA fans who visit.”

With today’s opening, there are now physical NBA Stores in the league’s top three merchandising markets in Europe (France, Germany and the UK).  There are more than 400 NBA-branded retail stores and attractions worldwide that serve as the league’s official destinations for fans around the world, including the flagship NBA Store in New York City operated by Lids.  NBA fans in Germany and across Europe can continue to shop online at NBAStore.eu for a wide range of NBA products featuring all 30 NBA teams.

Barea, a native of Puerto Rico, played 14 seasons in the NBA.  He spent 11 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks (2006-2011, 2014-2020), winning the NBA Championship in 2011.
